Dry Scalp

Whichever dialysis you are on (APD or CAPD) they have one thing in common: they pull every last drop of water out of you! One of the symptoms of this is getting a dry and flaky scalp – which isn't pleasant!

However help is available and it doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg. I use normal cooking Coconut Oil.

Oil is better to use as it will absorb into the skin, putting the moisture back.

Make sure it is 100% Coconut Oil and nothing has been added.

Take a good handful and rub it through your hair and all over your scalp. Keep going until all the scalp is covered.

If you are doing it at nighttime you have either put an old towel on your pillow or wrap a plastic bag over your head (obviously not over you eyes, mouth or nose).

If you are doing it during the day you can put an old towel round your head or the plastic bags.

Either way, you need to leave it for at least 6 hours. The longer you leave it the better!!

Then you can just wash it out via your normal hair washing routine but try not to use an conditioner as this will add a layer which will stop the oil working. Then blow dry.

I do it twice a week for a flake free head. I also do it the day before any major event I have on.

Happy Scalps!!
